A 42-year-old woman in Hyderabad was cheated out of Rs 29.27 lakh by scammers who promised her a job in Japan.
The woman, who was looking for a software job, received an email from a company called Renoir Group in July. The email said that the Hitachi Group was hiring senior accounts managers in Japan and that the woman was invited to interview.
The woman went for the interview in August and was offered the job the next day. She was told to pay a refundable deposit of Rs 33,780 and then make additional payments for things like airfare, accommodation, and visas.
The woman made the payments, but the meeting with Hitachi representatives in Delhi was postponed several times. She eventually found out that the job offer was fake and that there was no recruitment drive by Hitachi.
The woman has filed a complaint with the police.
