In a strategic move to invigorate Vietnam’s tourism industry, Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung proposes the introduction of short-term visa exemptions for key markets such as China and India. Currently, Vietnam grants visa waivers to citizens from 25 countries, a figure that pales in comparison to its regional counterparts, including Malaysia (162), Singapore (162), the Philippines (157), and Thailand (65). While Vietnam surpassed its annual target of 8 million foreign visitors in the first 10 months of this year, welcoming a total of 10 million, its tourism performance remains modest when juxtaposed with that of its neighboring country, Thailand.

Recognizing the need to enhance its appeal to international visitors, Vietnam has embarked on a mission to streamline the visa process. Since August, the country has implemented a system for issuing 90-day e-visas, simplifying and expediting the visa application procedure. This initiative forms an integral part of Vietnam’s broader strategy to render travel to the country more accessible and convenient for tourists, ultimately contributing to the revitalization of the tourism sector.
