The United States Department of State is actively aiming to shorten visa wait times for Indians planning to travel to the US, according to the US Bureau of Consular Affairs.

In 2023, the US Embassy in India processed a total of 1.4 million visas, achieving a significant 75% reduction in wait times for most visa categories.

A report from Boundless highlighted that the only category facing delays in visa appointments is the B-1/B-2 tourist visa, particularly for first-time US visitors.

The Assistant Secretary emphasized the importance of supporting Indian workers on H-1B status. The new H-1B visa renewal pilot program is expected to streamline the immigration process and reduce wait times for many Indian workers in the US.

Recent data from the US Department of State also revealed progress in handling pending EB-5 applications for Indian applicants. According to the Visa Bulletin for January 2024, the final action date for India has moved forward by two years, from December 2018 to December 2020.
