The United States is actively pursuing further reductions in the wait time for visitor visas for Indian nationals, building upon a notable 75% decrease achieved last year, as revealed by Rena Bitter, Assistant Secretary of the US Bureau of Consular Affairs. Bitter emphasized in an interview with PTI that the current era marks a historic high for Indian travelers to the United States.

In the previous year, the US Embassy in India successfully processed 1.4 million visas, a remarkable surge. Bitter acknowledged that there is virtually no wait time in various visa categories, except for individuals embarking on their inaugural tourism visit to the United States. She disclosed that the wait time for this specific group has already been reduced by 75% in the past year, and ongoing efforts are in place to further alleviate this delay.

Highlighting the significance of the bilateral relationship between the two nations, Bitter stressed the importance of people-to-people connections, business travel, and family ties. She affirmed that Washington is actively engaged in supporting the Indian post to meet the escalating demand, recognizing these interpersonal and familial connections as foundational elements of the strong relationship between the United States and India.
