The United States is making visa rules stricter because more people are coming to the southern border. The Biden administration is working to handle the growing number of individuals entering the country unlawfully.

Now, the rules affect “owners, executives, and senior officials of charter flight, ground, and maritime transportation companies providing services mainly for individuals intending to migrate irregularly to the United States,” according to a statement from the U.S. State Department.

This change follows a November announcement when the department imposed visa restrictions on people overseeing charter flights into Nicaragua for migrants heading to the U.S.-Mexico border.

The rise in people trying to cross the U.S. border from Mexico is a significant issue in U.S. President Joe Biden’s reelection efforts. It was also a focus during former President Donald Trump’s campaign challenging Biden.
