The US is offering a chance for people from some countries to apply for a US green card through the Diversity Visa Program. The lottery for this year, called DV-2025, is open from October 4 to November 7, 2023. You must apply online during this time, and you cannot apply through the mail.

For the upcoming year, 55,000 Diversity Visas (DVs) will be given out. The registration process is free, but if you are selected for an interview, you will need to pay a visa application fee. This fee is needed for the officer to decide if you are eligible for the visa.

Applicants chosen for the program must meet certain requirements. The Department of State randomly selects applicants and divides the visas among six different regions. No one country can get more than seven percent of the visas in a year.

Some countries are not eligible for the program this year because many people from these countries have moved to the US in the past five years. These countries include Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Venezuela, and Vietnam. However, the United Kingdom and its dependent territories are now included, which is different from last year.

If you are from an eligible country and meet the requirements, you can apply for the Diversity Visa Program lottery. This is a chance to get a green card and live and work in the US.
