US Ambassador Eric Garcetti praised President Biden’s order to cut visa wait times in India, urging Congress to address green card backlogs. He noted a 75% reduction in waiting times due to increased processing.
In an interview with ANI, Garcetti emphasized Congress’s role in addressing legal immigration issues, given India’s high demand for visas.
Garcetti acknowledged the remaining 250-day wait, stating President Biden’s commitment to further reducing it, aiming for an average wait time under 200 days.
He praised India’s visa system and discussed plans for new consulates in Bangalore and Ahmedabad to expand US presence, citing a record number of Indian students in the US.
