The US Embassy in India is working to speed up the visa process by hiring more staff and opening new consulates, including one in Ahmedabad.

US Ambassador Eric Garcetti shared this information at an event organized by the Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi. To reduce waiting times, they are increasing staff in Hyderabad and securing premises in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad for new consulates.

Recently, the embassy has already seen a big increase in issued visas. Garcetti mentioned that the number of visas issued has gone up by one-third, and they are on track to issue 10-15% more visas than usual this year.

The delay in visa issuance, according to Garcetti, is due to the high number of applicants. He pointed out that other large countries like Brazil and Mexico are experiencing similar challenges. The embassy’s efforts aim to make the visa application process smoother for everyone.
