Ukrainians Excluded from Canada's CUAET Program

Starting March 31, 2024, Ukrainians are no longer allowed entry into Canada under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) program, which has reached several crucial deadlines.

The first two deadlines are directly related to CUAET. Today is the final day for eligible visa holders to enter Canada under the program’s special measures. Those arriving after today must meet Canada’s standard entry requirements and will not receive CUAET-related assistance. Additionally, today is the deadline for current CUAET participants in Canada to request program-related extensions or changes to their temporary resident status, with waived application fees ending today as well.

Moreover, for Ukrainians already in Canada under CUAET, today is the deadline for visa holders and their family members to apply for an open work permit, study permit, or extend their stay for up to three years under post-CUAET measures.

The CUAET program aimed to provide free, extended temporary status to Ukrainians and their families in Canada until it’s safe for them to return home. While the program’s application deadline has passed, eligible participants were not required to pay application fees and could apply for open work permits at no cost during the program’s duration.
