UK Launches Fast-Track Visa for Hong Kongers, China Not Happy

China has strongly criticized the recent introduction of a fast-track visa program for Hong Kong residents by the British government, accusing London of manipulating the situation through its immigration policies. According to an embassy spokesperson’s official statement, China has consistently opposed the UK’s manipulation of the BNO visa scheme, which it sees as interference in both Hong Kong-related and internal Chinese affairs. The statement, issued on August 15, urged the UK to halt its contradictory actions, cease misleading Hong Kong citizens, and refrain from meddling in China’s internal matters.

On August 14, the British Home Office launched a Priority Visa service for applicants of the British National Overseas (BN(O)) visa scheme. This initiative has provided millions of Hong Kong residents with a path to gaining permanent residency and citizenship, especially in the wake of the Chinese Communist Party’s tightening grip on the city’s political landscape. The official statement from the British Home Office underscored the launch of the expedited Priority Visa service for the Hong Kong BN(O) route, assuring visa processing within just 5 working days for those with urgent travel requirements. The statement concluded by reaffirming the UK’s unwavering dedication to the people of Hong Kong.
