Starting this month, international students, including those from India, studying in British universities will find it harder to bring family members. The new rules state that students can only bring family if they are in postgraduate research courses or courses with government-funded scholarships.

These changes, introduced by former Home Secretary Suella Braverman last year, are meant to prevent the misuse of student visas for work purposes. It’s estimated that about 140,000 fewer people will come to the UK due to these adjustments.

The focus is on reducing what Home Secretary James Cleverly calls an “unreasonable practice” of international students bringing dependents, a practice that has surged by 930% since 2019 according to official figures.
