In January 2023, Home Secretary Suella Braverman confirmed ten oligarchs benefited, leading to the program’s end. While praised, there’s criticism for not providing details on those at risk of crime or corruption.
A 2022 report revealed 200+ wealthy Russians got UK residency through the program from 2015 to 2022. The UK’s Residency by Investment Program, started in 1994 and rebranded as Tier 1 Investor Visa in 2008, aimed to attract global investors.
