The UAE has kicked off a three-month campaign to assist residents and tourists in avoiding fines for overstaying their visas. This campaign aims to educate people about visa rules, penalties for overstaying, and offer help to those needing visa renewals or departures.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) are working together on this initiative. They will use various media channels to reach different language speakers, including Arabic, English, Urdu, and Swahili.
This campaign is essential as overstay fines were recently standardized in the UAE, with violators facing a Dh50 per day fine for unlawful presence.
The campaign will also emphasize the legal consequences for violators and remind people that they can conveniently check their visa status and settle fines online or at ICP service centers.
In addition to addressing visa overstay fines, the campaign will also highlight the provisions of the new labor law introduced last year. This law covers changes in employment types, leave options, employee protection, and the prohibition of forced labor and discrimination.
This campaign is a positive step and is expected to reduce visa overstays in the UAE.
