In New York City, two men, Rambhai Patel (36) and Balwinder Singh (39), were arrested for visa fraud. They’re accused of planning fake robberies at stores to help people apply for special visas. The arrests happened on December 13, and both Patel and Singh face charges for conspiring to commit visa fraud.

According to authorities, Patel and Singh staged at least eight fake robberies. They would pretend to be armed robbers, taking money from a store’s cash register on camera after scaring a store clerk. This scheme started in 2023, with store clerks waiting at least five minutes before calling the police after the fake robberies.

As part of the plan, the “victims” paid Patel, who then paid the store owners for using their shops for the staged robberies. The aim was to help store clerks apply for a special “U visa,” allowing victims of abuse to stay in the country for four years. During this time, they were supposed to help prosecute those involved in the fake robberies.
