A young man and woman, found residing unlawfully in Jabalpur after entering from Bangladesh, have been sentenced to four years in prison under the Foreigners Act. Justice Vipin Singh Bhadauria imposed a fine of ten rupees each on the accused.

On April 5, 2023, Gorakhpur police received a tip that a young couple was illegally staying in Jabalpur. Acting on the information, police located the couple near Maharshi School. Upon questioning, the pair, Mohammad Mosur alias Sheikh Umar (38) and Minara Begum (23), both Bangladeshi nationals, failed to produce passports and visas or any Indian identification. They claimed to have lived in Jabalpur for the past three to four months.

The police charged them for lacking valid documentation. The defendants argued that the Ministry of External Affairs had not provided evidence confirming their Bangladeshi residency. They insisted they were Indian residents, and the person from Gujarat who reported them had provided misleading information.
