Travel agents promise Canadian work visas, cheat Ahmedabad men of Rs 48 lakh

In Ahmedabad, two people got caught in a Canadian work visa scam. They lost Rs 48 lakh, paying it in pieces from March to July. They reported the scam to the Gandhinagar CID (crime) police on Tuesday, which led to legal action against the travel agents, Parth Jani from Uvarsad in Gandhinagar and Anshuman Negi from Vasantnagar in New Delhi.

Viral Patel, a 33-year-old living on Kathwada Road, wanted to go to Canada. He asked his friend Mayur Patel for help, who suggested Prakash and Jani’s company, Pelican Immigration Consultant in Kudasan. These agents convinced Viral, his brother-in-law Darshan Patel, and four others to give them Rs 48 lakh by promising Canadian work visas. They even provided a letter, called a labor market impact assessment (LMIA), made by Negi, assuring them jobs in Canada, as Viral reported.
