Türkiye is working towards easing visa restrictions, particularly for students, entrepreneurs, creatives, academics, and the media. Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozay confirmed ongoing talks with the EU to simplify the Schengen visa application process for these groups.

While the EU hasn’t officially responded, Bozay remains optimistic, noting reduced appointment wait times in some areas. This effort aligns with broader Türkiye-EU relationship mending.

The EU Commission supports further visa facilitation to enhance people-to-people ties. Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi emphasizes the urgent need for easier visa access for Turkish nationals, especially students and businesses, and advocates for longer-term, multiple-entry visas.

Despite the 24-year wait for EU membership, Türkiye remains committed to deeper engagement with the European bloc.
