Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Parnpree Bahiddha-nukara, is talking to more Schengen countries for visa-free travel. He wants it to be simple for Thai people to visit these countries without visas and plans to start talking to the EU about it.
Minister Parnpree also says Thailand is open to letting people stay longer without visas, like the current 30-day stay for citizens from Schengen countries. But before they start talking, Thailand needs approval for a project called “Thai passport empowerment” from the Cabinet.
Thailand asked Germany for help with this during German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s recent visit. The Thai Prime Minister thinks more people from Schengen countries will visit Thailand if they don’t need visas. He mentioned that people from Schengen countries can already visit Thailand without visas. We don’t know yet what President Steinmeier said about it.
