As part of the nation’s economic revival strategy, the Muay Thai education visa extends the stay duration for foreign learners from 60 to 90 days. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin emphasized the move’s alignment with cultural tourism promotion, focusing on film, food, festivals, fashion, and fighting.
Reactions to the Muay Thai visa are mixed, with some citing an existing visa and others viewing it as an improvement over the previous 60-day option. Lek Nawat, a Bangkok-based travel agent, sees it positively for promoting cultural experiences. While the official start date is pending, Lek anticipates crafting new tourism packages.
Concerns about potential misuse and the requirement for applicants to prove ongoing training and stay at certified camps have been raised.
