Thailand and Neighbors Working on Easy Travel Program

Thailand, along with Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, is creating a joint-visa program for easier travel within the region.

Southeast Asia is popular with Indian tourists because of the good exchange rate.

The plan for a joint-visa program is exciting for travelers going to this region. The goal is to make travel seamless for citizens of these countries, as discussed by leaders like Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.

In 2023, these countries welcomed 70 million visitors, with Thailand and Malaysia making a big contribution to tourism revenue, which was USD 48 billion. Thailand hopes this visa program will boost tourism, which is crucial for its economy and jobs.

Indian travelers can visit Thailand without a visa until May 2024. Other countries offer visa-on-arrival or need an e-visa.

Thailand also has temporary visa waivers for travelers from Taiwan and Kazakhstan and plans to remove visa requirements for Chinese visitors, an important tourism market.
