Thailand and Australia are considering a mutual visa exemption to facilitate easier travel between the two countries. The discussion took place during a meeting between Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Australia’s Governor-General David Hurley in Bangkok on February 14.

Prime Minister Srettha aims to boost tourism by ensuring safety and encouraging Australians to explore health-focused travel experiences in Thailand. He also suggested strengthening the Thailand-Australia Free Trade Agreement (TAFTA) and invited Australian investors to explore opportunities in green energy and intelligent technology sectors.

Governor-General Hurley is optimistic about Thailand’s investment potential, citing the significance of the Southern Land Bridge project. Both nations expressed satisfaction with ongoing military cooperation, emphasizing the importance of deepening defense ties to address emerging security challenges.

Thailand recently simplified travel by agreeing to visa waivers with China and extending the same convenience to Indian and Taiwanese visitors. Currently ranked 107th globally in passport strength, Thai citizens can travel to 47 countries without a visa but require visas for 118 countries, including Australia.
