According to the Korea Herald, the Justice Ministry emphasizes that the digital nomad visa aims to enhance the experience of remote work and vacations for visitors. It allows employees and employers in foreign companies to work remotely in Korea for an extended duration.
However, experts suggest that these visas go beyond facilitating travel—they might be a strategic move to address South Korea’s critical issue of a significantly low birth rate. Professor Jungho Suh, the project director of the Korean Management Institute at George Washington University, sees the workation visa as a “soft launch” for a broader initiative to attract more foreigners to Korea, not solely for professional reasons.
