South Africa is thinking about introducing digital nomad visas to attract tech talent. The Department of Home Affairs is proposing changes to immigration laws, suggesting a point-based system for work visas and a new digital nomad visa for those earning at least R 1 million ($52,575) annually.

These changes aim to draw highly skilled professionals, especially in the tech sector, to boost economic growth and tourism. President Cyril Ramaphosa stressed the importance of skilled individuals contributing to the country’s success in the evolving global economy.

If approved, South Africa would join other African nations like Cape Verde, Namibia, Mauritius, and Seychelles in providing such opportunities to foreigners.

The Digital Nomad Visa would permit remote workers to legally work in South Africa while serving companies or clients from different locations.
