Saudi Arabia has introduced stricter rules for issuing visas to hire overseas domestic workers. The new guidelines set a minimum age of 24 for single employers seeking such visas. Musaned, the government platform overseeing domestic labor, outlined these rules, specifying eligibility criteria. Visa applicants can include Saudi citizens, Gulf nationals, foreign wives of Saudi men and their mothers, and holders of Saudi premium residency permits. However, the issuance of visas depends on the financial capabilities of the employers.

This move aligns with Saudi Arabia’s efforts to organize and regulate the domestic labor market. The Ministry of Human Resources created Musaned to provide information about rights, duties, and services related to domestic labor, including visa issuance and recruitment. Musaned facilitates wage transfers through digital services and handles various tasks like transferring a house worker’s service between employers, verifying contracts, and resolving disputes.

The Ministry emphasizes using Musaned as the official recruitment platform for domestic labor. The regulations cover different categories of domestic workers, such as housekeepers, drivers, housemaids, cleaners, cooks, guards, farmers, tailors, live-in nurses, tutors, and nannies. The goal is to improve transparency and efficiency in recruitment while offering a platform for resolving disputes and safeguarding the rights of both employers and domestic workers.
