The Portuguese government is looking into the activities of the General Consulate of Portugal in Rio de Janeiro due to suspected problems with how Schengen visas are handled.
There are claims that some consulate staff favored certain visa applicants and assisted others in fabricating documents.
Five search and seizure warrants have been carried out by the Brazilian Federal Police in connection with the inquiry.The Portuguese Embassy in Brazil has confirmed the investigation, citing user complaints as the reason for the probe.
While no further details were disclosed, both Portuguese and Brazilian authorities are expected to cancel any visas that were obtained improperly.
