Poland and Czechia will continue their border controls with Slovakia until November 2 to prevent illegal migrants from entering their countries. These controls, which began on October 4 and were set to end on October 13, have proven effective in reducing unlawful border crossings.

Czech authorities reported that between October 4 and 9, they inspected 43,749 people and stopped 283 illegal migrants from entering the country. They also arrested 12 smugglers involved in these activities.

While this extension has sparked varying opinions, with Slovakia’s Prime Minister expressing concerns, Poland and Czechia assert that these controls are essential for their national security. In a related effort, Slovakia has implemented border checks with Hungary, expected to last until November 3.
