Nigerians in the UK Falling Victim to Deceptive Visa Scam Exploiting Job Promises

A recent report has exposed a growing problem where Nigerians are being tricked into paying large sums of money for job opportunities in the UK that do not exist.

The report, by Sky News, found that Nigerians are being lured by “traveling agents” who promise employment in the UK for substantial fees. However, upon arrival, these individuals find themselves stranded without the promised jobs.

One Nigerian woman shared her story, revealing that she paid ยฃ10,000 to an “agent” for a skilled worker visa that was supposed to secure her a job as a carer in the UK. Unfortunately, she arrived to find out that the job did not exist.

The report highlights the abuse of the skilled worker visa system, with intermediaries allegedly receiving significant sums of money to arrange nonexistent caregiving jobs in the UK. Many of those left jobless are struggling to survive and are turning to food banks or even becoming homeless.
