Shortage Occupation List

A new Green List has replaced the skills shortage list, featuring highly skilled roles with specific registration, qualification, or experience requirements. Look for your occupation or industry type on the Green List.

Stay informed about upcoming 2023 changes to skilled residence pathways, the points system, and the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). Changes are expected for the Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa and Accredited Employer Work Visa.

Visit Immigration New Zealand’s official website to find the Long Term Skill Shortage List. Qualifications must be from New Zealand or comparable overseas qualifications, except for those exempted (Appendix 3). An International Qualification Assessment (IQA) from NZQA is required unless an exception is stated.

Long term skill shortage list

The long term skill shortage list (LTSSL) was used to assess the following visas.

In New Zealand, certain jobs have a shortage of skilled workers, and these are listed in the Long Term Skill Shortage List. To work in these jobs, it’s usually required to have a New Zealand qualification. If you have a qualification from another country, it needs to be similar to the listed New Zealand qualification. If your qualification is not exempt (check Immigration NZ List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment), you’ll need an assessment from the NZ Qualifications Authority to confirm it’s comparable to the NZ qualification.

Long term skill shortage list:
