A 25-year-old man’s attempt to deceive authorities using a fake B.Tech Certificate for a UK student visa was thwarted at Mumbai International Airport. The incident unfolded on January 21 when Rakesh Rao Shakunshala presented his passport and boarding pass for verification at the immigration counter. The immigration officer noticed discrepancies in the education documents, particularly the absence of a logo and the use of low-quality paper on the submitted mark sheet and B.Tech degree certificate from Kakatiya University Warangal.

Upon further inquiry, it was revealed that Rakesh, a student of JB Institute of Technology in Dehradun, had failed his last year. Seeking a better future in the UK, he obtained a fake mark sheet and degree certificate for โ‚น10,000 from a Xerox shopkeeper. The college confirmed his non-bona fide student status. Consequently, a case was filed against Rakesh under sections 420, 465, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code at Sahar police station on January 21.
