A man in Ludhiana, India, was allegedly cheated of ₹40 lakh by his wife, who promised to help him get a spouse visa for Canada. The man, Sukhwinder Singh, said that he married Gagandeep on the condition that his family would bear all the expenses to send her abroad, and that she would help him get a spouse visa for Canada once she arrived.

Sukhwinder said that he spent ₹40 lakh on Gagandeep’s visa, college fee, and air ticket. However, after reaching Canada, Gagandeep stopped taking his calls and snapped all ties with him.

Sukhwinder has filed a police complaint against Gagandeep, her father, and her mother under Sections 406, 420, 506, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code. These sections relate to criminal breach of trust, cheating, criminal intimidation, and criminal conspiracy, respectively.

The accused are still at large, and the police are investigating the matter.
