People in British Columbia are waiting for over two years to get a U.S. visitor visa interview at the Vancouver consulate. Lots of requests for visitor visas have caused a backlog, and there are long lines outside the U.S. Consulate General in downtown Vancouver on weekdays.

After many travel restrictions due to COVID-19, more people want U.S. visitor visas, making it a big challenge for the consulate. People who aren’t Canadian citizens now have to wait for 832 days, as estimated by the U.S. State Department, just to get a visitor visa interview in Vancouver. But those applying for work or study visas have much shorter wait times.

Similar situations are happening in Canada, where Calgary has a bit longer wait time than Vancouver. People in Alberta are waiting for 892 days, almost 2.5 years, for a U.S. visitor visa interview.
