Kuwait has expanded family visa eligibility, effective January 28, 2024, allowing spouses and children of skilled foreign nationals to apply. The move aims to boost the workforce and foster inclusivity.

This follows the gradual reopening of the family visa program from December 2022, previously suspended in August 2022. Foreign nationals in Kuwait can now apply for a family residence visa, enabling their spouse and children under 18 to join them.

Main applicants need a relevant university-level degree for their field or a minimum wage of KD 800 (about US$2,600). The Family Residence Visa, renewable and granting up to three years, requires entry within two months.

Kuwait suspended family visas in August 2022 but resumed for young children in December 2022 and for spouses and children of medical personnel in September 2023.

Kuwait’s passport ranks 99th globally, providing visa-free travel to 58 countries for Kuwaiti citizens, while requiring visas for entry into 112 countries.
