A 50-year-old woman from Kottayam was detained in Qatar with a fake French visa, leading to an investigation by the Ernakulam Rural district crime branch for possible human trafficking. The woman, arranged for housekeeping work by a Thrissur agent, faced issues in Qatar despite Kochi clearance.
Deported to Kochi on Monday, she was questioned by Bureau of Immigration officials. She claimed innocence, saying she paid over Rs 5 lakh to the Thrissur agent. Having worked in Israel, her attempt to return failed, pushing her to seek the fake French visa.
The district crime branch is investigating potential human trafficking, focusing on tracing the agent and checking for a valid job arrangement license. Ernakulam has seen a rise in fake visa cases, highlighting the need for scrutiny in overseas recruitment.
