Kazakhstan is in official talks with the European Union to make it easier for Kazakh citizens to get Schengen visas. Deputy Foreign Minister Roman Vassilenko said they aim to simplify visa procedures through ongoing negotiations. The discussions will cover how rules can be eased for Kazakh nationals. Vassilenko emphasized that it’s a step-by-step process, with a focus on cooperating with the EU on readmission of citizens who enter irregularly. While no specific timeline is set, an agreement is expected to greatly simplify travel for Kazakh citizens to the EU.

Kazakhstan has been allowing visa-free entry for all EU citizens since 2017. The country is focused on streamlining the visa application process rather than seeking reciprocal visa-free travel to the EU.

Kazakhstan’s Internal Affairs Minister, Yerzhan Sadenov, assured the EU that simplifying visa rules won’t pose migration concerns, and they’ve identified specific requirements for easier application procedures. The negotiations signal a positive step for improved travel opportunities and closer ties between Kazakhstan and the EU.
