Japan welcomed more than 2 million international visitors in September, the fourth consecutive month of strong growth, as the country’s tourism sector recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The number of foreign visitors was 96.1% of the level seen in September 2019, before the pandemic began. This is a significant improvement from the same month last year, when Japan had some of the strictest border restrictions in the world.
The strong recovery is partly due to the relaxation of border restrictions and the depreciation of the yen, which has made Japan a more affordable destination for foreign tourists.
Some of the most popular destinations for foreign visitors in Japan include Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima. These cities offer a variety of attractions, including temples, shrines, historical sites, and modern shopping districts.
The Japanese government is hoping to attract even more foreign tourists in the coming years. The government has set a goal of attracting 50 million foreign visitors per year by 2030.
