Japan has just announced a new digital nomad visa, set to kick off by March 2024. This visa allows people to live and work remotely anywhere in Japan for up to six months. To be eligible, you need an annual income of ยฅ10 million ($68,300) or more. Unfortunately, India didn’t make the cut for the list of 49 countries eligible for this visa.

Digital nomads from the chosen 49 countries, including the EU nations, Armenia, Belarus, Iceland, and others, can apply for the “specified activities” visa category, which also includes self-employed individuals. These countries either have a tax treaty with Japan or enjoy visa-free status.

The decision to extend the visa to six months came after surveying digital nomads who wanted longer stays beyond the current 90-day limit. With this visa, you can work remotely from any spot in Japan without needing official employment in the country.
