Japan is making it easier for skilled workers to come help with job shortages. They’re expanding the Skilled Worker Visa to cover jobs in transportation, forestry, and more. This is the first expansion in a while and includes 16 different job types.

Japan needs more workers, especially in driving and transportation. They want foreign workers for roles like taxi and truck drivers, and in the railway industry.

New rules in April might make shortages worse, so Japan is considering letting more foreigners work, not just in transportation but also in food production, making meals for supermarkets, and the textile industry.

These changes aim to attract more foreigners to work in Japan. Recent data shows over 2 million foreign workers by the end of October 2023, a 12.4% increase from 2021. The numbers are expected to rise this year due to more job opportunities.
