Japan and Brazil to Implement Mutual Visa Exemption from September 30, 2023

Japan and Brazil have jointly announced a reciprocal visa exemption arrangement for short stays, effective from September 30, 2023. This initiative permits Brazilian tourists to explore Japan for up to 90 days without requiring a visa, while Japanese tourists can similarly visit Brazil for the same duration without a visa.

This arrangement emerged from discussions between Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva during their May 2023 summit. Both leaders recognized the potential of visa exemption to enhance cultural, economic, and people-to-people exchanges and boost tourism.

The visa exemption holds particular significance for the tourism sectors of both nations. It is anticipated to facilitate visits by Japanese tourists to Brazil and vice versa. Furthermore, it’s expected to enhance collaboration among businesses by streamlining project partnerships and enabling employees to travel more easily for work.

This mutual visa exemption represents a remarkable stride in Japan-Brazil relations, underlining the strong bonds and mutual commitment to continued cooperation between the two countries.
