This means that people from more countries can now apply for visas online, without needing to visit a Japanese embassy or consulate. The Japanese government is doing this to encourage tourism, which has been bouncing back since the COVID-19 pandemic.Using the online visa system is straightforward and takes just a few minutes. Applicants provide basic information like their name, passport number, and travel plans. They can also upload supporting documents such as a photo and hotel reservation.

Once approved, applicants receive their visa electronically, which they can print and show when boarding their flight to Japan.Currently, the online visa system is available to people from 12 countries and regions: Brazil, Britain, Canada, Cambodia, China, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.

The Japanese government plans to expand this system to more countries in the future, making it even more convenient for tourists.
