In a landmark move to foster stronger ties and cultural exchanges, Japan and the United Kingdom have announced a substantial expansion of their working holiday visa program. The current quotas of 1,000 visas for Japan and 1,500 visas for the UK will see a remarkable increase to 6,000 visas annually for each country.
This expansion, a result of the Hiroshima Accord, aims to enhance cooperation between Japan and the UK. The working holiday visa program allows individuals aged 18 to 30 to stay in the partner country for up to two years, offering them the opportunity to work for a specified period to cover travel costs.
While the increased quotas are expected to provide more young people with the chance to experience new cultures and build connections, concerns have been raised about potential challenges in employment and housing due to the anticipated surge in applicants. Participants are advised to secure appropriate insurance coverage for their stay.
