Italy Reduces Waiting Time for Indian Schengen Visa Applicants

Italy is actively cutting the wait time for Indian Schengen visa applicants, as revealed by Italian Ambassador Vincenzo de Luca to Business Line. Despite a surge in applications, de Luca stressed that Italian authorities are striving to expedite the visa process.

Notably, there’s been a remarkable 38% rise in Schengen visas granted to Indians in the first seven months of 2023 compared to 2022. The processing time for business and tourist visas now stands at just 48 hours upon application.

“We’re committed to faster processing amidst the high volume of applications. Schengen visa issuance surged 38% in early 2023 versus 2022. Processing time is 48 hours for business and tourist visas,” de Luca noted.

Additionally, the ambassador hinted at efforts to augment work permits for Indian professionals. Although specific numbers weren’t disclosed, Italian authorities are evaluating labor needs in diverse sectors.

“Last year, we expanded work permits for Indians to 15,000. We’re anticipating an even higher allocation this year,” de Luca stated.

These endeavors to trim waiting times for Indian Schengen visa applicants are welcomed by Indian travelers. The swifter processing will facilitate smoother travel plans for trips to Italy and other Schengen countries.
