Brijesh Mishra, a 37-year-old Indian immigration agent, is facing jail time for allegedly providing fake college admission letters to international students. He has been in custody for six months since his arrest in June by Canada Border Services Agency officers. Mishra is charged under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, with three charges dating back to 2016 in Jalandhar, India, and one from this year in Surrey, B.C.

Accused of posing as a licensed immigration consultant, Mishra allegedly gave misleading advice to international students between January 1, 2016, and February 12, 2020. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 9 at Vancouver Provincial Court, where he is expected to remain in jail until then. The Public Prosecution Service of Canada mentioned that Mishra hasn’t sought release on bail and has consented to his detention.
