The number of Indian tourists visiting Australia has increased significantly in recent months, reaching pre-pandemic levels. In the 12 months to June 2023, Australia welcomed over 380,000 Indian tourists, a 3% increase from 2018-19.
There are a number of reasons for this increase, including:
- The Indian economy is growing rapidly, and people have more disposable income to travel.
- Australia has simplified its visa process for Indian citizens, making it easier to obtain a visa.
- There are now more direct flights between India and Australia, making it more convenient to travel.
- Australia is a popular destination for Indian tourists, offering a variety of attractions, such as beaches, nature, and culture.
The increase in Indian tourists is good news for the Australian economy. Indian tourists spend an average of A$2,000 per person, which contributes significantly to the tourism industry.
The majority of Indian tourists are visiting Australia to see friends and family (62%), followed by those on holiday (15%), business trips (8%), and employment or study (15%). There are currently around 100,000 Indian students enrolled in Australian educational institutions.
The increase in Indian tourists is expected to continue in the coming years. Australia is a popular destination for Indian tourists, and the recent changes to the visa process and increased flight frequencies are making it easier for people to travel.
