According to recent UCAS figures, overall international student applications for undergraduate places rose by 0.7%. However, there’s a 4% drop in Indian student applications to British universities, linked to ongoing reviews of post-study work visas and restrictions on bringing dependents with government-funded scholarships.

While UK higher education remains popular globally, there’s a decline in applications from India and Nigeria by 4% and 46%, respectively. The decrease in Indian applications is connected to the review of the Graduate Route visa, offering post-degree work experience, overseen by the Migration Advisory Committee, where Indian nationals received 43% of grants last year.

Additionally, a recent clampdown on overseas students bringing dependents also contributed to the decline. Dr. Jo Saxton, UCAS Chief Executive, notes a decrease in mature student applications, especially in nursing. The application deadline is June 30, with Clearing available, offering support for informed decisions about higher education journeys.
