By 2028, the EU plans to fully transition short-term European visa procedures to an online platform. Before the pandemic, an estimated 22 to 25 million visa applications globally were processed yearly. This shift is expected to make the process more efficient, saving applicants time and money, and reducing costs for Member States by millions of euros in staff and resources.”
