In the last ten years, 5,000 tech professionals came to the UK using the Global Talent Visa, and Tech Nation will keep looking at applications for the Home Office “until further notice.”

A report on the ten-year program noted that 25% of the 5,249 international tech workers who got visas were startup founders. Formerly known as the Exceptional Talent Visa, this lets skilled tech people live and work in the UK.

The report said these global tech workers had a big impact on the UK’s tech sector, which became worth over $1 trillion in 2023, ranking third globally after the US and China.

Tech Nation has worked with the Home Office to support digital tech applications for the scheme from the start. Despite some uncertainties, like Tech Nation’s closure and reopening under Founders Forum in October 2023, the organization will keep looking at applications “until further notice.” The Home Office is figuring out long-term options for digital tech applications.
