Collect Your Passport
After your visa application is processed, you can either collect your documents or passport from the Visa Application Centre or have them delivered by courier, depending on your initial choice.
However, starting from July 16, 2014, third-party collection of documents or passports is not allowed, except in specific cases:
- Immediate family members (parents, children, siblings, spouse).
- One person can collect for the entire group.
- A person authorized by an official or diplomatic passport holder.
- A representative of a company with an authorization letter on the company’s letterhead and an official ID card.
If any of the above persons come to collect the passport, they must bring:
- A photocopy of a government ID card.
- The original ICR (receipt).
- An authorization letter from the applicant.
If applicants do not want to collect their documents in person and cannot have them collected by one of the above, they should choose courier delivery during submission.
If the processed passport or envelope came with a letter, the applicant must come in person to collect it, regardless of the chosen delivery mode, to sign the letter.
It’s important to note that the chosen mode of delivery cannot be changed after submission (e.g., from counter delivery to courier or vice versa). If counter delivery was selected, the passport must be collected from the Visa Application Centre where the application was made.
Processed passports from the French Consulate in Chennai must be collected from VFS within 60 days. After this period, they will be returned to the MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) with a notification email to customers, who will then need to collect their passports directly from the MEA office.
