France has changed its rules for international students. Now, there’s a new ‘fee’ for student visa eligibility. The law also says students need to pay a deposit, but we don’t know how much yet. This deposit is meant to cover unexpected costs during their stay. If the student follows the rules, the deposit will be given back when their visa ends or if they get a new French residency permit. But, if they don’t follow the rules, the deposit won’t be given back.

The law also makes tuition fees higher for students from non-EU countries. Students with multi-year permits have to show every year that they’re really studying.

While the law makes it harder for some immigrants to get benefits, international students can still get housing benefits.

It’s also now tougher for immigrants to bring family members to France. The time needed for residency is longer, and the age for unmarried partners is raised. This is similar to the UK, which also stopped international students from bringing family members from January 1.
