France unveiled significant measures to warmly welcome Indian students and alumni, signaling a strong commitment during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Paris.
In an effort to deepen academic ties, enrich cultural connections, and strengthen the enduring friendship between the two countries, France has set a target to host 30,000 Indian students by 2030.
Under the innovative program, France will offer a five-year Schengen circulation visa to Indian alumni.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Paris last month, France announced substantial initiatives aimed at providing a warm reception for Indian students and alumni. According to the French embassy, even a single semester spent by an Indian student in France creates a lasting bond that deserves nurturing.
Hence, Indian students holding a Master’s degree or higher and having completed at least one semester of studies in France will be eligible for a five-year short-stay Schengen visa.
This unique provision is designed to help Indian alumni maintain strong connections with France and their counterparts in the country.
French Ambassador Emmanuel Lenain emphasized the dedication of his teams to implementing the decisions made by President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Modi in Paris, all for the benefit of students. He highlighted France’s reputation as an inclusive and diverse nation eager to share its rich cultural heritage and world-class education opportunities with Indian students.
He assured Indian students that France will always be their friend and that every effort will be made to ensure a remarkable academic and life experience in the country.
In line with this initiative, specialized programs will offer comprehensive training in the French language and various academic fields, enabling Indian students to excel in their studies and seamlessly adapt to the French education system. The decision reflects France’s commitment to providing the utmost convenience for Indian students.

In response to this initiative, the French embassy and the French Institute announced the upcoming ‘Choose France Tour 2023’.
Organized in collaboration with the French government and Campus France, this education fair will take place in four major Indian cities: Chennai (8th Oct), Kolkata (11th Oct), Delhi (13th Oct), and Mumbai (15th Oct).
The fair will offer an excellent platform for Indian students and their parents to engage with representatives from over 40 French higher education institutions. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of study options.
With more than 570 French companies employing over 400,000 individuals in India, graduates with French qualifications gain access to a diverse array of career opportunities. These graduates have the chance to collaborate with globally renowned organizations, offering them an exciting path forward.
