Starting January 1, 2024, travelers going to Finland must have more money for their stay, according to Finnish authorities. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the money required for Schengen visa applications has increased to €50 per day, up from €30. Additionally, applicants need to submit a proof of sponsorship form.
For short visits to Finland (under 90 days), travelers must now have at least €50 per day, reflecting higher living costs in Finland and globally. This money requirement, known as means of subsistence for a Schengen visa application, varies among EU countries. For example, Belgium requires €45 per day, rising to a minimum of €95 per day for hotel stays.
The increase in the minimum means of subsistence is a common practice among EU countries and applies not only to Schengen visa applicants but also to those visiting visa-free. This change caused challenges for British travelers post-Brexit, especially those going to Spain.
